Jessica earned her medical degree at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine and completed her emergency medicine residency training at MetroHealth Medical Center and The Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. She completes her medical education fellowship at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Fresno in 2017. Jessica is a medical contributor to EMRAP, Editor in Chief of EMRAP’s Continuous Core Content (C3) Project, producer of EMRAP-HD instructional videos, and writer and co-host of This Won’t Hurt a Bit, a medical podcast for the general public.
Jonathan and his wife Anna thought they were coming to the emergency department for a routine sickle cell pain crisis, but his illness takes him down an unexpected spiral of multi-system organ failure and critical illness. What was a routine patient encounter becomes a much more personal human interaction that causes the provider to question her perspective on chronically painful conditions and realize the effect our words and subtle actions have on our patients.
