Jim is an emergency physician and resuscitation researcher with a particular passion for extracorporeal perfusion to treat medical and traumatic cardiac arrest. A professor at the University of North Carolina for 27 years, his scientific contributions have been inventing & developing selective aortic arch perfusion (SAAP), demonstrating the superiority of intra-aortic epinephrine, and creating a pre-hospital physician response system for thoracic aortic & central venous catheterization to guide resuscitation in cardiac arrest patients in the field. Advancing SAAP into clinical trials (and hopefully into clinical resuscitation practice) is presently his full-time pursuit.
